The Mazda Foundation has supported the work of The School Volunteer Program with a generous grant for the 2010 calendar year.
The Foundation is dedicated to building a better tomorrow through support of meaningful programs that make a difference - a compatible fit with SVP's 'mentors making a difference'.
We welcome and acknowledge the valued support of the Foundation and all contributors to our work and we are grateful for the shared vision thats brings about such partnerships to deliver mentoring in schools across WA.
Become a Volunteer Mentor
Your contribution as a Volunteer Mentor makes a difference in students’ lives through positive interaction and being a role model.
The School Volunteer Program provides an excellent example of the positive impact caring members of the community can make.
Mentoring is not a teaching program and Volunteer Mentors are not performing the functions of teachers’ aides. Formal qualifications are not necessary. There are three main skills required to be a successful Volunteer Mentor with the School Volunteer Program:
Patience
Volunteer Mentors demonstrate patience to help the student progress at their own pace. Patience is required to build positive relationships based on trust.
Empathy
Volunteer Mentors are encouraged to develop a friendly, unbiased understanding towards the challenges students may be faced with in their young lives.
Life Experience
Volunteer Mentors have the opportunity to share their life experiences. Wisdom and tolerance have proven to be essential ingredients in the success of the School Volunteer Program.
If you able to gift one hour per week of your time to becoming a Volunteer Mentor or you would like to speak further about The School Volunteer Program please contact our friendly staff at the Tuart Hill Head Office on:

Volunteer Mentors are required to attend an Orientation Workshop prior to placement. The workshop will provide an understanding of how the program works in a school. For more information on the Orientation Workshop and other workshops conducted for Mentors please click here.
