The Mazda Foundation has supported the work of The School Volunteer Program with a generous grant for the 2010 calendar year.

The Foundation is dedicated to building a better tomorrow through support of meaningful programs that make a difference - a compatible fit with SVP's 'mentors making a difference'.

We welcome and acknowledge the valued support of the Foundation and all contributors to our work and we are grateful for the shared vision thats brings about such partnerships to deliver mentoring in schools across WA.

Training

The School Volunteer Program provides orientation, education and information workshops to meet the needs of the Volunteer Mentor position.

VOLUNTEER MENTOR ORIENTATION

The Department of Education & Training guidelines specify that each new Volunteer Mentor complete an Orientation Workshop (3hrs) which will provide an overview of the SVP organisation, staff, programs and the Volunteer Mentor’s role.

The orientation includes:

• an understanding of the volunteer role, as part of SVP, school team and overall program
• information about workshops, support and feedback
• discussion of the philosophy of volunteering and expectations of the role
• information on the rules, regulations and principles of the schools
